About Us

Established in 1981 as a charter operator mainly servicing the mining industry, Hinterland Aviations has since expanded to operate general air charter all around the country including to Indonesia, Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands.

Hinterland Aviation has a diverse range of clientele, providing air services to Bloomfield Lodge, as well as resorts at both Lizard Island and former Dunk Island Resort. Hinterland Aviation operates regular charters for the live-aboard dive vessel Spirit of Freedom, as well as Mike Ball Dive Expeditions, and services the fly-in, fly-out requirements for Kagara Zinc and Ergon Energy’s Queensland state air charter needs.

Hinterland Aviation also services the Cooktown and Coen community by operating a direct Regular Public Transport (RPT) service between Cairns and both of the communities each week.

Our emphasis is on quality of service and safety at cost-effective prices. We are a dedicated team who pride ourselves in getting to know clients' individual requirements, and our reputation results in the majority of our business coming from personal recommendation and long term clients.

We have a parent company that operates in the UK. Trailfinders – UK based operators, are leading experts in all aspects of travel. Hinterland Aviation has the same work ethos as Trailfinders do, which gives us an unrivalled reputation for our services in the travel and tourism industry.

In 1992 Hinterland Aviation was sought by Trailfinders in order to offer air transfers to guests staying at its remote resort, Bloomfield Lodge. The Bloomfield Lodge – situated off picturesque Weary Bay is accessible via a 35 minute scenic flight with Hinterland Aviation.
