IMPORTANT NOTES

ALL CAIRNS FLIGHTS DEPART FROM HINTERLAND AVIATION TERMINAL, GENERAL AVIATION – 15 minute transfer required from the Domestic/International Terminal.

ALL TOWNSVILLE FLIGHTS DEPART FROM THE HINTERLAND AVIATION TERMINAL LOCATED AT GENERAL AVIATION ON VISCOUNT DRIVE. PLEASE BE AWARE OF OUR SET T&C’S FOR TOWNSVILLE FLIGHTS.

CHECK IN

In order to ensure on-time departures passenger should arrive at Hinterland Aviation Terminal no later 45 minutes prior to departure. Check in closes STRICTLY 30 minutes prior to departure. Passengers will NOT be accepted after this time. If passengers have not completed check-in formalities by the minimum times stated travel will not be permitted and depending on your fare conditions, a failure to check-in on time may also result in:

  • the loss of the fare. You will need to make a new booking and pay for a new ticket if you wish to travel, OR
  • the payment of a change fee plus any difference between the fare for your new booking and the original fare.

FARE CONDITIONS

FLEX (H)
Flight, date and name changes are permitted up to 2 hours prior to departure with no change fee payable. Same sector re-routing is permitted as per the original booking, eg: Cairns to Cooktown can be changed to Cooktown to Cairns. Failure to check in for the flight by the deadline shown in the e-ticket receipt, or not showing up for the flight (no show), will result in loss of the fare. The flight can be refunded ($44 refund administration fee applies) or placed in credit up to 2 hours before departure time. The credit amount wil be held in credit for up to 12 months from the original date. Credit must be used for travel within 12 months of the original booking date for the original booked sectors. Failure to change the flight within that time will result in loss of fare. Full payment must be made at time of booking. Infants (under 2 years), who do not occupy a seat travel free of charge. Infants must be accompanied, and a maximum of one infant per adult travelling is permitted.

SAVER (S)
Flight, date and any other changes are permitted EXCLUDING on the day of the scheduled departure, will attract a change fee of $44 per change. Same sector re-routing is permitted as per the original booking, eg: Cairns to Cooktown can be changed to Cooktown to Cairns. To place this fare into credit, a fee of AU$44.00, plus any fare difference will be payable to upgrade this to a Flex Fare (H), which then can be credited for up to 12 months from the original ticket purchase date. Credit must be used for travel within 12 months of the original booking date for the original booked sectors. Failure to check in for the flight by the deadline shown on the e-ticket receipt, or not showing up for the flight (no show), will result in loss of the fare. DEAL (K)
Flight and date changes are permitted up to 24 hours prior to departure, will attract a change fee of $44 per change. Re-routing is not permitted. Name changes are not permitted.To place this fare into credit, a fee of AU$44.00, plus any fare difference will be payable to upgrade this to a Flex Fare (H), which then can be credited for up to 12 months from the original ticket purchase date. LOCAL (L)
Available only to permanent residents of Cooktown on flight sectors to or from Cooktown. Proof of local residency is required. Date changes are permitted. Name changes and re-routing not permitted. Failure to check in for the flight by the deadline shown in the e-ticket receipt, or not showing up for the flight (no show), will result in loss of the fare. The fare is non-refundable. Full payment must be made at time of booking. Infants must be accompanied, and a maximum of one infant per adult travelling is permitted. Children pay 100% of the adult fare.

LOCAL FARE SCHEME (Coen, Kowanyama, Pormpuraaw)

Liability

1.0 The liability of Hinterland Aviation under all travel contracts is, in all respects, subject to the provisions of the Civil Aviation (Carrier’s Liability) Act 1959-70 or as amended from time to time. Liability of Hinterland Aviation is limited to the following amounts:

  • in respect of death or personal injury of the passenger: AUD$500,000.00
  • in respect of destruction or loss to registered or checked baggage of the passenger: AUD$1,600.00
  • in respect of destruction or loss to cabin baggage of the passenger: AUD$160.00
  • such other sums as may be prescribed by applicable legislation for the time being in force.

1.1 Limits of liability:

  • payments accepted by the company in respect of a ticket are subject to the fare rules applicable to the category of ticket purchased
  • the company will not be liable to the purchaser, the passenger, or to any other person for costs or losses resulting from diversion, substitution, alteration, cancellation or delay, or from loss or delay of baggage
  • the company will be not liable for consequential or other loss of any kind, arising directly or indirectly from negligence or any act or omission or any other cause in connection with provision or non-provision of carriage or any transport or service and
  • the company will not be liable for inaccuracy in any information concerning transport, services or their pricing whether referred to in the ticket or any other document.

Passenger conduct

2.0 Hinterland Aviation reserves the right to refuse carriage to any person who seeks to travel in violation of any applicable law or tariff or is otherwise in breach of these Terms and conditions of carriage, or who is under the influence of drugs or alcohol, or if it is necessary for the safety or comfort of other passengers or for the protection of property. This extends also to passengers who may have been banned from travelling on any Hinterland Aviation flights due to previous incidents relating to the above breaches or violations. This includes if you are not wearing footwear.
2.1 The passenger shall comply with the instructions of the carrier’s servants or agents concerning all matters connected with or consequential to the air service, and shall comply with the conditions of this ticket and the terms of any notice exhibited in the aircraft and shall be responsible for any loss or damage occasioned by non-observance of any instructions, conditions or notice.
2.2 The passenger shall not enter or remain on the aircraft while their status or mental or physical condition is in the opinion of any servant or agent of the carrier such as to render them incapable of caring for themselves or involving hazard to themselves, other persons or property and the carrier shall not be bound to provide substituted carriage for a person precluded by reason of this clause from completing their journey.
2.3 The passenger shall remain seated during taxiing and when required by the carrier during flight. The passenger shall not smoke in or in the vicinity of the aircraft, throw anything from the aircraft or walk in front of the aircraft or in the vicinity of the engines when entering or leaving the aircraft.

Baggage Allowances – Cairns, Cooktown, Kowanyama, Coen, Pormpuraaw, Palm Island and Townsville.

3.0 Passengers will be required to check-in all baggage; no carry-on baggage will be allowed other than small, soft handbags. A 20kg checked baggage limit (Including Hand Luggage) applies to all scheduled services. Personal hand carry items that do not fit in the seat pockets will be stowed and inaccessible for the duration of the flight.
3.1 Items such as wheelchairs, crutches or prosthetics required by special needs passengers may be carried in the aircraft hold at no extra charge, providing the passenger has notified Hinterland Aviation prior to making their booking.
3.2 Baggage in excess of 20kg will be uplifted on a standby basis. Baggage in excess of 20kg shall be paid for at the applicable rates.
3.3 Children are entitled to the same baggage allowance as adults.
3.4 The carrier accepts no liability whatsoever for loss of or damage to any baggage resulting from the inherent defect quality or vice of goods carried or for loss of or damage to registered baggage not collected by the passenger within a period of twelve hours after the arrival of the aircraft at destination.
3.5 The airline does not guarantee it will be able to carry you and your baggage in accordance with the date and time of the flights specified. Schedules may change and flights may be delayed or cancelled for a range of reasons including but not limited to bad weather, air traffic control delays, strikes, technical disruptions, network changes and late inbound aircraft.
3.6 Except as provided for under the Law, Hinterland Aviation is not liable for loss or damage to, or delay in the delivery of the following goods:

  • money
  • cameras
  • computers
  • jewellery and precious metals
  • perishable articles
  • fragile articles
  • business documents
  • other valuables

3.7 Hinterland Aviation will not accept or carry items that are unsuitable for carriage. Due to their weight, size, shape, a dangerous good listed in 5.0 or items which are prohibited by any applicable law from being carried via air transport. If these prohibited items are found we may do what is reasonable such as notifiing law enforcemnt and or disposing of the item.

Baggage Claims

4.0 Claims for baggage damaged or lost due to negligence on the part of Hinterland Aviation must be reported within 24 hours of the flight arrival at the destination. Claims reported after 24 hours will not be accepted.
4.1 All claims must be submitted to Hinterland Aviation staff at the destination airport, using specific claim forms provided by Hinterland Aviation. The damaged baggage must be sighted by an Hinterland Aviation staff with the baggage tag still attached.
4.2 Hinterland Aviation is not liable for damage to baggage where damage is the result of normal wear and tear (this includes, and is not limited to, damaged handles and wheels). The company is also not liable for damage to baggage if baggage weight exceeds the maximum weight specifications of the manufacturer. Where the manufacturer’s specifications are unavailable the weight limit applied will be 25kgs.
4.3 Passengers should ensure that accurate details are provided in the booking process so any changes can be notified. To the extent permitted by law, the airline excludes liability for any costs, expenses, losses or damages incurred by the passenger as a result of failure to meet a schedule.
4.4 If the airline cannot commence or complete its contract for carriage by air it will, if required by the passenger, forward them as soon as possible to their destination by other available means. Alternatively, the airline shall refund the fare paid by the passenger for themselves and their luggage less the value of any flown kilometres. Beyond providing such substituted carriage or refund, the carrier shall be under no further liability.

Dangerous goods

5.0 For safety reasons, the following types of dangerous goods are prohibited and must not be carried in your baggage:

  • Corrosives: acids, alkalis, wet cell batteries, mercury and apparatus containing mercury
  • Compressed gases: flammable, non-flammable or poisonous such as camping gas, butane, propane, oxygen and aqualung cylinders
  • Poisonous and toxic substances: arsenic, cyanides, insecticides and weed killers
  • Explosives: munitions, fireworks and flares
  • Infectious substances: bacteria, virus cultures
  • Flammable liquids: lighter and heating fuels, petrol and turpentine
  • Organic peroxides: bleaches, powders and peroxides
  • Radioactive materials
  • Matches and articles easily ignited: disposable lighters, refills and matches
  • Oxidising materials: pool chemicals, fibreglass and repair kits
  • Miscellaneous: dry ice, heat producing articles, engines
  • Other dangerous articles: magnetised material

5.1 Briefcases and attaché-cases incorporating dangerous goods such as lithium batteries or pyrotechnic devices are totally forbidden.
5.2 Disabling devices such as mace, pepper spray, etc, containing an irritant or an incapacitating substance are prohibited on the person, in checked baggage and carry-on baggage.
5.3 Small arms, sporting munitions and dry ice may be carried in limited quantities under certain conditions. Firearms are not permitted in the cabin.

Fares and fare rules

6.0 All tickets are issued subject to general conditions of contract and to the terms and conditions of carriage. Specific fare rules vary dependent upon the type of ticket purchased. Please ensure you are fully aware of the specific terms and conditions applying to your ticket before purchase.
6.1 Discount airfares on Hinterland Aviation services are non-refundable once the ticket has been issued.

Fees and surcharges

7.0 The total price paid for the ticket may include taxes and other surcharges which are levied by third parties such as airport operators or government bodies and collected by Hinterland Aviation on their behalf.
7.1 In addition the following fees and surcharges may be applied on certain Hinterland Aviation fares:

  • Type of fee – AUD
  • Change fee (on applicable fare types)
  • Amend flight date or day
  • Cancel flight and place in credit – Cairns – $ 44 per passenger (inc GST) | Townsville – $ 44 per passenger (inc GST)

7.2 A standard surcharge of 2.0% applies for the following credit cards: Visa, Amex and Mastercard

Special needs and assistance

8.0 Hinterland Aviation acknowledges that some customers will need special assistance to meet our conditions of carriage and is committed to accommodate those passengers within the limits of our capability and practicality. Examples of special needs passengers include flying when pregnant or travelling with a medical condition. In order to provide the best possible service Hinterland Aviation requires advance notice in certain circumstances for further guidance please check with our reservations staff.

Medical Needs

9.0 Hinterland Aviation provides special assistance to passengers who:

  • need to travel with a guide dog
  • need to travel with a hearing or mobility dog
  • are travelling with their own wheelchair
  • require two seats for themselves

9.1 For your special assistance requirements, please contact Hinterland Aviation prior to making a booking.
9.2 A passenger with special medical and/or mobility needs is required to travel with Hinterland Aviation with an Accompanying Passenger*. If the passenger can travel independently, meaning that they can travel safely without assistance or supervision Hinterland Aviation will allow boarding. Please contact Hinterland Aviation on 07 4040 1333 for further information.
*Accompanying Passenger means a paying passenger who, in our reasonable opinion, can travel independently and is able to and will provide the appropriate assistance, supervision, or both, as is required for the particular customer they are accompanying. As a guide, Hinterland Aviation generally will not consider a passenger to be an appropriate Accompanying Passenger for a child unless the passenger is at least 15 years old.
9.3 Maternity – A medical certificate for travel between 28 weeks to 36 weeks of pregnancy is required. Medical clearance is only required if you are having complications of pregnancy. There is no restriction for a normal uncomplicated pregnancy but medical clearance is required if you wish to travel past the 36th week for uncomplicated multiple pregnancy.

Special Needs Information Form

10.0 Individual customers have different needs and require different types and levels of assistance. To ensure that assistance can be adequately provided, passengers are advised to provide Hinterland Aviation with information regarding their requirements prior to travel. This is done through the use of a Special Needs Information Form (SNIF) available upon request.
10.1 Hinterland Aviation respects the privacy of its customers and endeavours to obtain this information once per customer, and to retain it in a special needs profile.

Unaccompanied Minors

11.0 All bookings for Unaccompanied Minors require to be made direct with Hinterland Aviation, or an agent acting on Hinterland Aviation’s behalf
11.1 Minor’s are between the age of 8 years to 11 years. Children 12-15 can travel as unaccompanied minors at the request for the parent or guardian.
11.2 Hinterland Aviation must be advised at least forty eight (48) hours prior to the flights departures

Flight schedules

12.0 The carrier reserves the right to substitute without notice any other aircraft for that originally scheduled, or to transfer the passenger without notice to the other aircraft at any intermediate stopping place and all the conditions of this ticket shall remain applicable to such substituted carriage.

Connecting flights

13.0 Hinterland Aviation does not guarantee flight connections with other airlines/multiple flights or cover expenses resulting from missed connections. It is the passenger’s responsibility when making bookings to allow time for baggage collection and re-check. Travel insurance is recommended.

Check-in

Security

15.0 If you have an e-ticket or paper ticket please bring photographic identification such as a driver’s licence or passport or social security card.
15.1 An electronic ticket (e-ticket) is a ticket that is stored electronically rather than being printed on paper. You should carry your e-ticket receipt at all times.
15.2 The following are the only acceptable forms of photographic identification all of which must be valid at the time of travel:

  • National passport or
  • Motor vehicle driver’s licence issued under a law of the Commonwealth of Australia, or of an Australian State or Territory or
  • Document that identifies you, issued by:
  • the Commonwealth of Australia or
  • an Australian State or Territory or
  • by an authority of the Commonwealth of Australia, or an Australian State or Territory; or
  • An aviation security identification card issued by the operator of the aircraft or the operator of an airport in Australia

Smoking

16.0 In accordance with Civil Aviation regulations, smoking is not permitted on all Hinterland Aviation flights and in all Australian domestic terminals.
